AJAX are said to be interested in signing Rangers star Calvin Bassey this summer.
Erik ten Hag is looking to reunite with the Argentine centre-back as part of his rebuild at Old Trafford after working with him in the Dutch capital.
An agreement has been reached between the clubs, with United paying £46m for the 24-year-old.
This means that Ajax must replace the left-back before the new season.
And Bassey is said to be seen as the ideal candidate to join the team.
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, the Dutch side are eyeing Bassey as a replacement for Martinez.
The veteran reporter stated on air that Rangers hope to keep the player for another season.
However, the prospect of playing in the Champions League with Ajax may be too much for the Nigeria international to turn down.
The 22-year-old’s dominant performances in the Europa League – including the man of the match award in last season’s final – as well as impressive performances in domestic action for Rangers have seen interest in the player rise significantly.
No bids have yet been made, although according to previous reports, Rangers are seeking £25m for the defender. It remains to be seen whether Ajax are willing to drop that figure, with Crook stating they would prefer to pay a fee of £15-20m.
Joe Aribo was sold to Southampton from the Ibrox club last week in a deal potentially worth up to £10m.
It remains to be seen whether any other stars in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad will move on before the end of the transfer window.
